(#3)  The Memoir (Narrative Essay)

Aiman was so happy. His smile was wide smiling. As the school will reopen in three-day time, he was so busy selecting and choosing his new school uniforms and other needs. I also felt the happiness as I also got new shirts and other college needs. Suddenly, I saw father and mother smiled to us. Their smiles were really heart-cooling and made me felt so glad to have them. I smiled back, but later I realized that they were not my parents. It was impossible for dead people to come alive and smile to us. My eyes started to produce crystal-clear tears. It all happened when we were going back to our hometown to celebrate Eid two years ago. The incident took their lives.

Two weeks before the incident that I cannot forget, the changes has been seen. I noticed that they were really different. Mom cooked really delicious dishes for week, not as usual, she usually cooked just normal dishes. Then, she also made us a pair of Baju Melayu that she sewed on her own. She sewed until late night. She told us that she really hope we could wear them in the morning of Eid. Dad, he stopped yelling to us and beating us, not as usual. We really felt his love to us before the incident. I noticed all those changes, but I never knew that God had a better plan for them. God plans the best, and that what made me strong every time I wanted to cry.

Early in the morning, on the day my parents took a leave to go to hometown, my father woke us up to perform the Subuh prayer. He woke us up with his warm and lovely voice, just soft, not the hard voice anymore. After the car was ready, we started to begin our journey, using the North- South Highway. We were really happy in the car. Mom played hide and seek with Aiman. The car seats saw everything happened. Daddy told us his childhood story while I kept playing my PSP. Suddenly a lorry with ton of logs overtook our red Avanza, made my father hit the break-pedal out of the blue. In a blik of an eye, it all happened. A log felt from the lorry and hit our car from in front. We were all screaming.

When I opened my eyes, I saw everything around me in white. I thought I was dead but actually I was in the hospital. The doctor asked me to be patient and told me that I lost my right leg as it stuck in the crashed car. Aiman, just had a little injuries. I was so worry. I asked the doctor about my parents. The doctor was just silent, his reaction changed. I knew it. We lost our parents. The log smashed into the front mirror and hit our parents terribly. Due to serious injuries and too much blood lost, God invited them to meet Him there. I cried as too much until I fainted. We were just had the chance to see them before the funeral.

After five weeks staying with our grandmother, someone came and met our granny. That couple with my parents’ ages wanted to adopt us. Granny agreed as she wanted the best for us. She wanted someone to take care of us better than her. She saw a bright future for us if we stay with that couple. Then, we followed my grandmother’s wish. The couple whom we call as Papa and Mama, give us all our needs, until now as they do not have any own child. Aiman, he is just so small to understand all these matter. He just feels heaven-sent but me, I will always feel star-crossed. But, I hope everything that happened in this instant world will give good impact to him as all what I want is just to see him happy.
